MUSIC FOR LIFE
Two years ago, Trevor Ludski was shocked to find out he had aggressive prostate cancer, and underwent life-saving surgery at VGH. In March 2012, to express their overwhelming gratitude, Trevor and his wife Toni organized a fundraising event, Music for Life, with all proceeds going to the Vancouver Prostate Centre. It’s been such a success, they’ve decided to make it an annual event. Thanks to their dedication and hard work in organizing Music for Life, Trevor and Toni Ludski helped raised over $4,500.

MYELOMA VANCOUVER’S STROLL FOR A CURE
Multiple myeloma. Until they are diagnosed with it, most people have never heard of this devastating blood cancer. While there is currently no cure, research has entered a revolutionary and exciting phase transforming myeloma into a treatable disease.

For two years now, Myeloma Vancouver has held its annual Stroll for a Cure in Coquitlam. In 2011, the event raised over $23,000, and in September 2012 they surpassed it by raising an astonishing $50,000. “It is important that every person affected by multiple myeloma become engaged in the process of finding a cure for this devastating cancer,” says Francesca Plaster, co-founder of the Vancouver Myeloma Support Group. “New drugs are being trialed every day across North America. We need to ensure that every person in British Columbia benefits from the most cutting edge research.”

IRON RIDE FOR ALS
23 years ago Hal Spelliscy’s sister was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), a progressive neuromuscular disease in which nerve cells die and voluntary muscles become paralyzed. After watching the effects of this devastating disease, Hal wanted to do something about it. In August 2012, he and his friends Blane Despres and Kevin Mason raised over $36,000 for the ALS Centre at GF Strong Rehab Centre, riding their motorbikes 5,900km across Canada in 90 hours. Along the way, lots of folks supported Iron Ride for ALS and provided the encouragement and motivation needed for Hal, Blane and Kevin to reach their goal.

SIDE BAR STORY: DONATIONS – BIG AND SMALL – MAKE AN IMPACT
Over the past year, dozens of events took place which collectively raised over $90,000 for prostate cancer, multiple myeloma and ALS.

Whether they’re riding for a cause or hosting an evening of music, these amazing people demonstrate incredible compassion for others, and show us that all donations, large and small, make significant impacts on patient care.
