Time to Shine Gala raises over $2.88M for the Future of Surgery

Thank you to our guests for joining us at the 2017 Viva Pharmaceutical Time to Shine Gala held on February 5 at the Fairmont Pacific Rim.

With the support and generosity of over 360 guests, we raised more than $2.88 million for our Future of Surgery campaign to enhance surgical care for British Columbians.

Philanthropy plays a vital role in our health care system and is an important investment in the future of patient care at our hospitals. Together with our major sponsors, matching fund donors, community partners, donors, staff and volunteers, we’re advancing our goal to improve surgical care for patients by transforming the VGH OR suite and UBC Hospital.

A heartfelt thank you to all those who helped make this year’s gala a shining success!

2017 Time to Shine Gala Fundraiser Preview highlights need for improving surgery at VGH and UBC Hospital

On January 11, media and sponsors gathered at the Fairmont Pacific Rim for a preview of our annual Time to Shine Gala.

The annual fundraising Gala – to be held at the venue on Sunday, February 5 – aims to raise $2 million toward improving surgery at Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Hospital as part of the Future of Surgery campaign. At the preview event, media and guests were given the opportunity to hear about the Foundation’s goal and the impact it will have on health care for British Columbians.

This is the third year for the Foundation’s Gala which attracts prominent guests from the Asia-Pacific community and coincides with the start of Lunar New Year and the Year of the Rooster. This year’s theme reflects renewal and revitalization of the new season, a fitting analogy for the Foundation’s vision of transformative health care.

This year’s gala features a live auction and an extraordinary culinary experience featuring two executive chefs – Chef Nathan Brown, Executive Chef for the Fairmont Pacific Rim and Chef Andrès Delpeut, Executive Chef for Amsterdam’s highly regarded Bridges restaurant. Bridges has been awarded with a Michelin Star and is a favorite among Amsterdam residents, international guests, business executives and celebrities.

The Gala Committee, led by Mrs. Alice Chung from Alive Health Centre, recognized the many donors and sponsors who have made this event possible.

$3.3 million raised at 2015 Night of a Thousand Stars Gala

Over 900 guests gathered at the Vancouver Convention Centre on Saturday Nov 7th, and over $3.3 million was raised, making the 20th Anniversary of the Night of a Thousand Stars Gala a glowing success.

Night of a Thousand Stars Gala is a very special night for us,” says Barbara Grantham, President and CEO, VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation. “It’s our opportunity to honour the health care teams who work tirelessly to improve the health and well-being of British Columbians, as well as recognize the leadership of the philanthropic community who are transforming health care in this city and throughout the province.”

The $3.3 million raised will fund an interventional (or hybrid) operating room (OR) at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) that will contain sophisticated radiological imaging equipment. Functioning like a “one-stop surgery shop,” an interventional OR eliminates the need to transport patients to a different location for imaging, which saves critical time. The money raised will also support other urgently needed equipment at VGH, UBC Hospital, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute, GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre and Community Health Services across Vancouver.

A heartfelt thanks to our donors, sponsors, health care partners, supporters, Gala Committee and volunteers. Together, we are significantly improving specialized adult health care for all British Columbians.
