CT scan_bannerEvery year, tens of thousands of patients at VGH and UBC Hospital undergo a computerized tomography (CT) scan – trauma patients who have been in devastating accidents, cancer patients who are undergoing surgery, patients who are suffering from broken bones, and so many others. In fact, our hospitals conduct more than 50,000 CT scans per year – an average of 140 per day.

CT scans provide doctors with critical information they need to treat their patients. They produce detailed images that are used for a variety of purposes: to pinpoint problems quickly in urgent care; to diagnose, treat and monitor diseases; and, to support clinical research.
At VGH and UBC Hospital, three of our six CT scanners need to be replaced. Last year, all 24 of our hospitals’ radiologists stepped up and personally donated $10,000 each – for a total of $240,000 – to bring this advanced technology to our hospitals.

Thanks to their support, our donors, government support and other fundraising initiatives, we have successfully raised enough funds to purchase two of the three critically needed CT scanners.

Help us reach our goal of funding the final state-of-the-art CT scanner for the VGH Emergency Department.
