Richard was riding his bike to work on a Thursday morning when he was hit by a bus. And then a dump truck.

“I have no memory of the accident and I’m told that’s probably a good thing,” he says.

Suffering from severe lower limb trauma, Richard was transported to Vancouver General Hospital where doctors only had a short amount of time to save his leg.

Many specialty teams at VGH, UBC Hospital and GF Strong Rehab Centre worked together to repair Richard’s injuries and made sure he would recover. After 18 weeks, thanks to the exceptional care he received, Richard was able to go home to his family.

“I can’t express how wonderful it was to be with my wife and young son again. And only three weeks after I came home, my wife gave birth to our beautiful little girl!”, says Richard.

With your donation to VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation, you help these hospitals acquire the cutting-edge equipment and world class health care professionals that make recoveries like Richard’s possible.
