Philanthropy is critical in pushing the boundaries of health care forward. It empowers world-class researchers and clinicians to reach beyond the status quo, to reimagine health care in new and exciting ways, and to make the once believed to be impossible, possible. Below are a collection of donor-funded pilot programs (e.g. Lung Cancer Screening), which started right here at VGH, and have since expanded far beyond these walls.

Nancy Chan Palliative Care Ambulatory Clinic

The clinic supports clients and families who are facing a life-limiting illness. What began as a pilot project in 2015 now regularly supports the entire Vancouver area.

Early Detection

The Lung Cancer Screening Pilot Program at VGH was a resounding success, and this program has now expanded to 36 sites across BC.

Copper on Transit

A natural antimicrobial, copper was first trialled in 2021 on high-touch areas on public transit vehicles in Vancouver. In 2022 it expanded to across to UBC campus and Toronto transit.

Opportunistic Salpingectomy

The OVCARE team at VGH implemented preventative surgery that saves countless lives, and has been adopted by gynaecological societies around the world, aiming to prevent ovarian cancer.
