Emergency

The VGH Emergency Department (ED) provides urgently needed assistance to people requiring immediate treatment, and is the province’s main referral centre for acute, highly specialized adult care. It is the entry point for nearly all patients requiring specialized medical services, including spinal, burns, plastics, neurosurgery, trauma, hyperbaric, orthopedic trauma and cell separator. The VGH ED provides leadership in other crucial areas: it serves as a regional stroke centre, provides specialized service to sexual assault victims for the Vancouver Coastal Health region, and is BC’s only accredited Level 1 trauma centre for the entire province, with 24/7 specialists.

As one of the busiest emergency rooms in the province, Vancouver General Hospital’s Emergency Department provides urgent care to over 95,000 British Columbians a year. VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation works closely with VGH’s Emergency Department to secure equipment to help accelerate patient diagnosis and save lives.
