The names Joseph and Rosalie Segal are synonymous with philanthropic leadership in Vancouver, British Columbia, and Canada.
In addition to being generous donors to many causes, the Segals are well known as gracious hosts, opening their home on many occasions for fundraising events. True champions of social responsibility, they are greatly admired and respected members of the community, modeling the way for other caring and compassionate citizens. They have also been VGH & UBC Leadership Award Recipients
Joseph and Rosalie Segal’s visionary support of excellence in research, patient care, and equipment for many areas of our hospitals including Cardiology, the Spine Program and Urology is evidence of their long-standing commitment to world-class health care in British Columbia. In November 2010, they made a generous $12 million donation in support of a new Mental Health Pavilion at VGH.
The new Mental Health Pavilion at VGH will be built to improve patient care by consolidating the majority of acute psychiatric services at VGH into one location – ensuring more streamlined and timely access to essential care. VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation is committed to raising $25 million for this initiative from private donations. As of December 2011, over $14 million has been committed through the generosity of donors, including the Segal’s lead gift of $12 million.
