Chad Warren and Family

Chad Warren was just 26 years old when he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer of the blood. He bravely fought the disease for nine years, but in 2009, he sadly lost his battle.

In February, Chad would have celebrated his 38th birthday. Chad was full of life and the shining light in the lives of those he touched. He was a son, loving partner, brother, uncle, and good friend. Though he is greatly missed, his legacy lives on though his mission: To raise $1 million to help find a cure for multiple myeloma and other blood diseases.

Sparked by his passion to make a difference in the lives of others, Chad worked with VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation in 2009 to kick start a $1 million campaign for multiple myeloma research through the Hematology Research Program (HRP) at VGH.

A unique program, the HRP is dedicated to bringing new, innovative and potentially life-saving therapies for blood diseases to patients in BC. For many trial participants, it has meant a better quality of life and the extraordinary gift of spending more time with the people they love. More than 670 patients have participated in as many as 80 new therapies and treatment options that would otherwise not be available to them.

This month we want to celebrate Chad, and particularly thank his family and friends who continue to honour his legacy by tirelessly telling his story in support of his vision to raise $1 million. To date, Chad’s fundraising campaign has raised over $320,000 for HRP. We hope you are inspired to make a donation to help Chad’s dream come true.

“I’ve heard that the cure for cancer is prevention which I believe to be a true statement. We need to continue funding to discover its origin so one day we can test high risk candidates and catch this disease before it consumes another life”. – Chad Warren
