On a stunning summer evening, guests gathered in support of VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation and the VGH Emergency Department (ED) on Thursday for the second annual LiftED, presented by RBC. In its second year, the event raised the bar once again, raising an outstanding $493,000 – a truly inspiring show of the power of community spirit.
Funds raised will lift the dedicated and hard-working professionals of our ED and give them resources to help improve patient care. Every dollar raised is a step toward ensuring that everyone living in British Columbia continues to receive world-class health care.
An evening of impact and inspiration
The evening was a vibrant blend of celebration and heartfelt reflection, filled with meaningful moments of connection. Guests were able to indulge in exquisite cuisine, fabulous entertainment, and inspiring and resonant remarks from emergency physicians and researchers.
Guiding the evening with signature flair were beloved hosts Fred Lee and Sophie Lui, whose energy and authenticity brought the program to life. Our presenting sponsor, RBC, played a key role in the success of the evening, and we extend our deepest appreciation for their enduring support.
We also must share a special thank you to Naz Panahi, our incredible event Chair & Founder, and Foundation Board Director, for her resolute commitment to supporting the ED and health care philanthropy. Her visionary heart shaped LiftED into something truly extraordinary. And to the LiftED Committee – we thank you all for your incredible efforts that have contributed to the event’s success.
Lifting emergency care to new heights
There are few higher charged and faster paced places than the VGH ED.
On average, a new patient arrives in the 50-bed ED every six minutes, many of whom are amongst the sickest or critically injured in the province. In 2024, over 90,000 patients came through their doors, each with a unique story and an urgent need for help.
As the entry point to B.C.’s Level 1 Trauma Centre, the VGH ED is a gateway to some of the most advanced medical care in the province. When seconds count, the team’s swift actions make the difference. For patients suffering heart attacks, traumatic injuries, strokes or other neurological emergencies, exceptionally streamlined processes ensure they receive critical care as quickly as possible – from rapid diagnostic scans to specialized treatments. These efforts save lives every day, offering patients the chance to recover and return to their loved ones.
The VGH ED is also a place where the power of community shines. Generous donors, like those who attended LiftED 2025, help provide the tools and resources that make exceptional care possible. Their support funds state-of-the art equipment, cutting-edge research, and specialized training, empowering the ED team to go above and beyond for their patients.
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this event. Your contributions are making a real and lasting difference for people across the province.
If you are still interested in donating to support the VGH ED, it’s not too late. Donate today to help lift emergency care to new heights.
