Job Title
RN
Department/Location
VGH Emergency
How long have you worked at VCH?
10 years
Tell us what you do at VCH in one or two sentences:
I am a registered nurse in the Emergency Department providing patient care.
Editor’s note: Carrie is featured in the documentary series ER: Life + Death at VGH. Episodes are available on Knowledge Network’s website.
What’s your favourite thing about your work?
The emergency department is an exciting, chaotic and extremely busy place to work. Every day is different and you never know what is going to come through the doors next. I love being challenged and learning new things; something that happens every day for me at work. My favorite place to work within the department is the trauma bay providing care to trauma patients and critically ill ICU patients.
One thing we might be surprised to learn about you:
I teach the emergency nursing course with BCIT as a clinical instructor.
Three things you always have in your fridge:
Chocolate, peanut butter, and veggies. I always start my morning with a few pieces of chocolate and a cup of coffee!
Who or what inspires you?
The emergency department as a whole inspires me. I feel very fortunate to come to work each day and work with incredibly smart, dedicated, enthusiastic, caring individuals who all want to provide the best care to each patient. We are faced with so many challenges every day but, no matter what is going on we come together and make it through each shift.
Most healthy habit:
Running, it energizes me and keeps me sane.
Favourite vacation spot:
My family cottage back in Ontario. I spent most summers at the cottage when I was young and my family and I continue to fly back to the cottage every summer for vacation. I have amazing memories of swimming all day, water skiing, boating, campfires and spending time with family and friends. It’s pretty much the best place on earth!
Help Carrie and the ER team advance patient care.
