A massive milestone has been reached in the campaign to build a new mental health facility in BC. Thanks to the inspiring generosity of donors and government support, construction has begun on the Joseph & Rosalie Segal Family Health Centre, a central place to access care for illnesses that are so often misunderstood.
“The project’s very existence sends a message of hope, healing and dignity,” says Victoria Maxwell, who spoke at the ground-breaking celebration on October 15. An active campaign supporter, Victoria brings a personal perspective to this important work. She lives with bipolar disorder and knows how essential it is to have a strong network of support. “The Centre will heal not just individuals but families and communities.”
Expected to open in late 2017, the new 131,858 ft2 Centre will offer a more therapeutic environment for healing and recovery – with 100 private rooms, natural light and green space – than the current 70-year-old facility.
We are moved by the support of the community, the generosity of our donors and the brave people who have come forward to share their personal stories to help make this $82 million project a reality. Through the Segal’s inspired donation and support from close to 900 other individuals and organizations, this new Centre will provide hope and healing to people suffering from mental illness.
