The institute bears the name of Mr. Mohammad H. Mohseni in recognition of his transformational $20 million gift to VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation’s landmark Urologic Sciences campaign.

    2024

    The first-ever endeavour of its kind in Canada, this campaign will amplify clinical care, research, and knowledge across urologic disease, helping to recruit-world class talent, develop new live-saving therapies, and establish the M. H. Mohseni Institute of Urologic Sciences within the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute.

      Acquired through VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation’s Brain Breakthroughs campaign, this cutting-edge scanner offers double the resolution of the previous 1.5T MRI, leading to more accurate diagnoses and improved patient outcomes.

        2022

        VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation makes the largest investment of its type by a health care foundation in BC to expand the VGH health care precinct.

          2021

          VGH is the only hospital in BC able to perform the procedure on COVID-19 patients, and has done more than any other facility in the country.

            This remarkable achievement marks the opening of 16 new ORs and a 40-bed perioperative care unit.

              The Foundation celebrates reaching $1 billion in philanthropic funding, greatly benefiting health care in BC.

                The GRID program offers specialized therapeutic day programming for elderly clients with psychiatric symptoms.

                  The new PAU provides short-term assessment, stabilization, and treatment services for individuals experiencing psychiatric crises.

                    This center consolidates inpatient and outpatient services, providing comprehensive mental health care.

                      Dr. David Wood unveils the 3M transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) surgical technique he helped pioneer. This reduces the need for open heart surgeries, reducing recovery time for patients from months to just a few hours.

                        VGH opens its first hybrid OR, allowing for instant imaging and optimized surgery times.

                          Home to SportsCardiologyBC, Diagnostic Cardiology, SaveBC, the Jack and Elly Senior Cardiac Clinic and Neuro-Cardiology, the centre contains state-of-the-art research labs with expert clinicians and investigators working collaboratively to advance scientific knowledge in cardiology and sport and exercise medicine.

                            The Brain Bolt is introduced at VGH, allowing for improved monitoring and personalized ICU care for brain injury patients.

                                    The Robert H.N. Ho Research Centre opens, focusing on early detection and prevention of diseases.

                                        Dr. David Wood standardizes the minimally invasive heart valve replacement technique known as TAVR, revolutionizing cardiology.
