Nick Kanaan was born with cystic fibrosis and despite managing the disease with daily medications, he was left fighting for his life in 2019.
After more than a year of regular check-ups, tests determined that Nick’s lungs were steadily declining, and he was desperately in need of a lung transplant. Because of the condition of his lungs, Nick was admitted to VGH and put on ECMO, innovative, donor-funded equipment that allowed his lungs to rest, providing precious time to find him a lung donor.
Three and a half weeks later a match was found.
