One in five people will experience a form of mental illness during their lifetime. Mental illness is a serious issue that can affect anyone at any time, and has devastating effects on people and their families.
Thanks to a generous donation from Taseko Mines Limited, people suffering from mental illness will soon benefit from a much improved healing environment. Taseko’s $1.5 million contribution will help build a new state-of-the-art mental health centre at VGH – the Joseph & Rosalie Segal Family Health Centre. In providing the largest corporate donation to the project to date, Taseko will offer hope and healing to thousands of people and their families suffering from mental illness.
This new Centre will replace a severely outdated 70-year-old building, and provide an urgently needed facility for people suffering from major depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, mood disorders, and substance abuse and
addiction. Recovery will be aided with private rooms, therapeutic spaces, natural light, outdoor courtyards and access to exercise facilities
As a BC company with over 700 employees,Taseko understands how important it is to take care of people across our communities. Mental health is one of the leading causes of workplace absenteeism, and Taseko’s gift demonstrates true leadership and an investment in BC’s workforce.
“With the needs for care in this province on the rise, it is significant investments in philanthropy, like Taseko’s gift, that truly have the power to advance health care in BC,” says Barbara Grantham, President & CEO of VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation.
Funds are still needed to complete the new mental health centre at VGH and help people across BC. Please donate.
