Dr. Patricia Mills helps patients with spinal cord injuries.

As a physician scientist at GF Strong Rehab Centre and the ICORD Spinal Cord Research Program at VGH, Dr. Patricia Mills has a vision: to help people recover from spinal cord injuries. Thanks to TD Bank Group, she now has the funding to conduct ground-breaking research to achieve her goal.

Dr. Mills is a recipient of the Adopt a Young Scientist Award made possible by TD’s donation totaling $750,000. These research funds will help her evaluate whether electrical stimulation of the brain can improve blood pressure control in individuals with spinal cord injury, which among other things, would improve their ability to engage in physical rehabilitation, and vastly improve their recovery time.

“This award will help me launch my career as a physician scientist,” says Patricia. “I want to bring the benefits of my research directly back to the patients here, and around the world. I am so grateful to the TD Grants in Medical Excellence Program for this wonderful opportunity.”

As far as TD Bank Group is concerned, that’s just the beginning. TD Grants in Medical Excellence Program is providing seed funding for young physician researchers over the next decade. This means that young medical professionals are able to conduct innovative research that betters the health of people today, and in the future.

We’re grateful that TD Bank Group is so committed to promoting excellence and building capacity for health research.
