A new mental health centre at VGH will bring better care for people suffering from mental illness. Our Foundation is proud to be part of a new era in mental health care by leading an $82 million campaign to create a new mental health centre – to be named the Joseph & Rosalie Segal Family Health Centre. It will dramatically improve how patients are able to access care and the environment in which their healing takes place.
Thanks to funding of $57 million from the provincial government, a lead gift of $12 million from philanthropists Joseph and Rosalie Segal, and donations from other donors, we are close to making this project a reality, with only $3.1 million left to raise.
The Joseph & Rosalie Segal Family Health Centre will provide short-term, acute care to seriously ill people suffering from major depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, psychotic disorders and drug and alcohol addiction.
The new eight-floor, 90,000-square-foot mental health centre will replace the badly deteriorating 70-year-old health centre. With 100 private patient rooms, it will be the largest purpose-built facility of its kind in the province, caring for people with mental illness from all walks of life.
We all need to be concerned about mental illness because we are all affected. One in five Canadians will experience a mental illness over the course of their lives.
Please help us reach our fundraising goal and make mental health matter.
