Heart surgery redefined — thanks to you
Dr. Edward Percy and his team at Dilawri Cardiovascular Institute (DCI) are redefining cardiac surgery in BC.
Fuelled by donor support, DCI is leading specialized cardiac procedures like robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive valve replacements, delivering safer, faster care to patients across the province.
DCI’s goal is to lead the world in cardiovascular innovation, research, and clinical care. Whether someone lives five minutes from the hospital or five hours away — whether they’re in an urban centre or a rural community — their goal is the same: world-class cardiac care, accessible to everyone in BC.

Dr. Mypinder Sekhon is leading bold research at VGH to unlock new insights into the human brain. It’s a first-in-medicine approach mapping uncharted territory in the dying process, with potential implications for end-of-life, emergency care, and organ donation.

Galvanized by donor support through the Organ Donation and Transplant Research Foundation of BC, we are fuelling groundbreaking research like Dr. Sekhon’s that will save and improve lives in BC.
Where BC’s spine patients get their lives back
Dr. Charlotte Dandurand is the first female neurosurgeon at VGH. As a member of the Combined Neurosurgery & Orthopaedic Spine Program, she is part of a world-class team that is restoring dignity, independence, and hope to patients throughout BC.
Dr. Dandurand’s current practice focuses on minimally invasive surgery, degenerative spinal disorders, cranio-cervical junction abnormalities, intra-dural pathologies, and trauma.
And now, with donor support, VGH has a vision to become Canada’s premier adult spinal deformity program, with dedicated surgical suites, advanced imaging techniques, robotics and research excellence.
