Dr. Cheryl Wellington is a Professor and Vice Chair, Research in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC), and a Principal Investigator at the Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health.

The Wellington Laboratory advances brain health research through multidisciplinary, translational approaches that connect scientific discovery with patient care. The lab specializes in blood-based biomarkers, using advanced technologies to detect proteins released from the brain into the bloodstream at extremely low concentrations.

These biomarkers provide real-time insights into brain health and disease. They hold the potential to improve diagnosis, monitoring and access to care through simple blood tests. The lab’s research focuses on a broad range of neurological conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and other dementias — as well as concussion, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, intimate partner violence, and the biology of brain development and aging.

Through innovative biomarker research, the Wellington Lab is reimagining the future of neurological diagnostics and improving access to brain health care for everyone in BC.
